the mother of a girl in my class

Post by navit »

1) This girl in my class's mother took us.

The sentence is from 'The Catcher in the Rye' by J.D. Salinger.

It is spoken by Phoebe, who is a child. The mother of a girl in Phoebe's class took them to the movies. She is telling her brother who took them to the movies.

Is the sentence correct in spoken English?
Is it correct in formal English?

Gratefully,
Navi
