So I’m currently working on a story and this (rather odd, I would have to admit) sentence is causing me a bit of trouble:
Skulls don’t have *1. a stomach or an oesophagus / 2. stomachs or oesophaguses*.
I’m not sure whether to use the singular or the plural, kind of at least. I know 1. is probably wrong but it sounds right (and I feel like I’ve heard singular nouns being used to refer to plural ones) to me, so I can’t help but ask for a second opinion.
Singular or plural?

Re: Singular or plural?
Actually, either would be acceptable for conversational use, but overall I would suggest as a written form:
A skull does not have a stomach or an oesophagus.
A skull does not have a stomach or an oesophagus.
