ESL Teaching Online

Unread post by KMinnaar »

Hi there,

I am a South African citizen. I have been teaching English for a while now and I like it a lot. I have been teaching lessons to both single students, one at a time, and to groups.
I don't have a teaching qualification but I do have a law degree and, of course, I have practical experience in teaching online.
I've been wanting to get started teaching on my own from home for some time now but I'm not sure how to go about getting started.
I have no problems setting up lessons or using virtual classroom software but I am having difficulty getting my name out there and finding students.
Does anyone have any advice on how to advertise one's self in a manner where one could reach many overseas markets?

Try this - http://www.thebeijinger.com/
A lot of Chinese guys there looking for teachers. But you can't always trust Chinese people, so I would use StretchPay while giving lesson.
Good luck

The link above is an excellent example of where you can advertise using the classified section to advertise yourself as an experienced Native English teacher with degree, offering lessons on Skype. Also learn to setup your own multi-lingual site, set up to be easily searched for. register with all the popular search sites.

Trusting Chinese? They are probably more honest than many other nationalities. But that doesn't matter, students should prepay courses in packages of 1, 5, 10, to 20 lessons. Price ratio being lowest for the most lessons being purchased. Do not offer free trial lesson, as you will be wasting a lot of your time.

I have been teaching esol privately full time in Russia for ten years, individually and in small groups. This is done face to face where I have rented a classroom in a commercial building with reception. I'm considering expanding online, but I'm not sure that skype online is profitable enough for someone seeking a full time professional family income. Anna,do you teach full time online? And have you received what would be considered a good professional annual salary?

I would like to ask if there are teachers who would like to teach online.

I have students online who are in need of teachers. They are mostly from China.
We offer from $8 to $18/hourly rate.
Please feel free to email me back or leave a message on skype at live:c10f56c214e1a431

Thank you.
