Writing Prompt ~ Football Vocabulary

Writing Prompt: It’s useful to get to know sports vocabulary in depth so that you can use it appropriately when global events such as the Olympics or the World Cup are on. Review this page of English football vocabulary. Then write a postcard to a friend describing a football match that you just saw.

Example

Hey Conor,

How are things back home? I’m in Brazil right now. Life is great. I just watched a football match between Brazil and Argentina. It was a very exciting game. The best part was when a referee called a handball in a penalty area on one of Brazil’s strikers. Argentina got a penalty kick. The defenders created a wall around the net, and the crowd went wild when the goalkeeper saved the shot. Then one of Argentina’s players got a red card for complaining to the referee about a foul call. The player had already received two yellow cards. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. The game didn’t go into extra time because it was just a friendly. Brazil and Argentina have the best goalkeepers in the league.

I wish you were here! Home soon…
Jack
