World Wide Words is a website for language lovers. The site is maintained by Michael Quinion, a British English etymologist (one who studies the history of words) and writer. The site contains over 2000 entries on the origins of English words and phrases, including new words, words from the news, and words that have fallen out of use. If you enjoy reading about words and want to expand your English vocabulary, you can subscribe to the free newsletter. Check out the Question and Answer section for responses to word inquiries from subscribers.
