Australian Banknote Features Typo
Comprehension Questions
- What is the report mainly about?
- What part of the banknote contained the error?
- How did the RBA respond?
Discussion Questions
Though RBA admitted that they were “aware” of the typo, spelling mistakes are sometimes used intentionally in micro-text as a security feature. Do you think this typo was placed there intentionally as an anti-counterfeiting feature? Will this banknote become a collector’s item worth more than $50? Why or why not?

English Club Indonesia says:
The report is about a typo on an Australian banknote. The typo is the word ‘responsibility’ with a missing ‘i.’ The RBA has acknowledged this, and they are going to fix it in the next printout. Since the RBA has stated that it was a mistake, it wasn’t intentional. In the future, the value of this banknote may increase depending on the hype that will occur.

Hi Tara,
First, thank you for this week’s audio news report. I enjoyed it so much because you have spoken each word so slowly and clearly.
I could fill in the blanks all words except the word “female”.
Second, I’m surprised how hasn’t the central bank of Australia ( or maybe, RBA ) had any supervision on this important subject?
In addition, as I know the banks are so accurate in their works that make this typo.
In any way, everybody can make a typo.
Thank you for sharing this interesting subject with your students.
Best wishes,
Bijan from the Persian Gulf -
