France’s Famous Fugitive Captured Again

French police have captured a notorious fugitive at an apartment complex near Paris. Redoine Faid, who escaped from a French prison via a hijacked three months ago, is once again behind bars. The serial robber, who was in jail for the murder of a police officer following a failed robbery, is well-known in France due to two prison breaks. In 2013, the French fugitive used dynamite to break out of a prison, but was caught again soon after. Faid once admitted he was inspired by Michael Mann’s movie Heat, which he claimed to have watched hundreds of times. French say he will now be held in a maximum-security facility.

Comprehension Questions

  1. Who is Redoine Faid?
  2. How did he escape the first time?
  3. What was Faid’s inspiration?

Discussion Questions

The fugitive allegedly wore a burka (a long garment worn by Muslim women) as a disguise to hide from police. Do you think this is a common method that criminals use? What can be done about this tactic?
