NFL Hires First Female Coach
The Arizona Cardinals have hired a female assistant coach for the next National Football League (NFL) season. Jen Welter will work as an intern with inside linebackers for the 2015 pre-season. This is not the first time Jen Welter has broken the gender barrier in American football. In 2014, Welter became the first female to play a non-kicking position in a men’s professional football league. She has also coached for a men’s pro-football indoor team. Welter says she wants to show girls and women that anything is possible. The NFL also hired its first full-time female official for the 2015-16 season.
The NFL announced that a female assistant coach was going to be working with the Arizona Cardinals for the 2015 pre-season. She is the first female to hold a coaching position in the NFL.
Welter played a non-kicking position in a men’s indoor pro-football team in 2014.
The first full-time female NFL official has also been hired for the upcoming season.
