incarcerated
This page is about the doublespeak term incarcerated
Meaning
imprisoned
For example
- We incarcerate all illegal immigrants until we're sure they're not terrorists.
- We arrested and incarcerated all the ringleaders, so the protests should be over.
"Incarcerated" normally means imprisoned for a crime, but it's doublespeak when state officials use it to make imprisoned refugees and political activists sound like dangerous criminals.
