contribution
This page is about the doublespeak term contribution
Meaning
a political donation or "bribe"
For example
- Corporations don't make huge contributions to political parties for nothing, you know.
- We made contributions to both parties, so we'll get the contract no matter who wins the election.
For advanced learners: Political "contributions" are often negotiated by people with political connections called "lobbyists". They work on behalf of corporations and interest groups and arrange the payment of bribes to politicians and political parties before an election in exchange for government contracts and changes to laws and regulations after an election.
